Blood sugar sounds like something that should always be kept as low as possible, but that is not how the body works. Glucose is one of the body's main energy sources. The goal is not “no sugar in the blood”; it is healthy regulation.

What is blood glucose?
Blood glucose is glucose circulating in your bloodstream. Your body can make glucose, and you also obtain it from food—especially carbohydrates. After digestion, glucose can enter the blood and become available to cells for energy.
Your brain and other tissues depend on a steady energy supply, so the body uses several hormones and organs to keep glucose within a workable range.
What does insulin do?
